Stoney Cove

Join Galaxsea Divers on one of our monthly trips to Stoney Cove, in Leicestershire with wrecks, fun dives and training.

Upcoming dates 2011:

September 17-19th
October 16th - 17th

Why Stoney Cove?

Stoney Cove is a large inland dive site, popular with divers for training, experience and the attractions. Stoney Cove is a flooded quarry which used to be a working granite quarry until 1958. When quarrying ceased, spring water flowed in and the quarry gradually became to fill. Over the years, the flooded site became popular with water skiers and divers, helping commercial divers and North Sea oil divers to train. In 1978, due to popularity Stoney Cove Marine Trials was formed and the site open to recreational divers. Nowadays, Stoney is a popular dive site for both Commercial divers and Recreational divers and with over 50,000 visitors a year coming to explore the waters.

The Diving!

Stoney Cove is a great location to practice diving skills and to gain valuable experience in UK waters. Attractions have been added to help the divers navigate around the site, gain wreck experience and to provide stimulation for divers, plus there are plenty of residential pikes and perch to keep us interested. Look in the cubby holes of the cliff side and you will find Cray fish sitting watching the world go by.

The Attractions!

Besides the friendly marine life, there are some attractions that are worth a visit including the largest inland wreck, the Stanegarth. Others attractions include The Viscount aircraft cockpit, The Nautilus Submarine, The Wessex helicopter, a bus, camper van, a mini and the latest editions to Stoney Cove The Defiant tug boat(sunk September 2009) and The MV Belinda Trawler (sunk June 2010) plus lots more.

The Trip

Galaxsea Divers monthly trips to Stoney Cove are usually on a Sunday and Monday. We leave Ipswich early Sunday morning for a day’s diving, we then stay at a little local B&B before enjoying a second days diving on the Monday. We return home Monday evening usually via a stop at services for tea, a chat and if applicable a post dive briefing. If time is limited there is a day option available, where you join us for one of the days, leaving Ipswich early in the morning and returning home that evening.

How do I book on?

Whether you wish to do a course or join us for some leisure dives, all you need to do is contact us, let us know if it is a course or leisure dives you wish to do and if you are staying for both days or coming up for one.

We look forward to our monthly trips to Stoney, where we get the chance to spend time with our students and friends doing the thing we love the most.....Scuba Diving!
