PADI Altitude Diver
Any time you’re diving at 300 to 3000 metres/1000 to 10,000 feet above sea level, you're altitude diving. If you want to explore the hidden world of a mountain lake, the PADI Altitude Diver Specialty course is for you. The PADI Altitude Diver Specialty course familiarizes you with the rules and procedures necessary for altitude diving, including how to use the Recreational Dive Planner at altitude.
What do I need to start?
You need to be at least 10 years old and certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, PADI Junior Open Water Diver or hold a qualifying certification from another organisation. You will also need to complete the following forms:
• PADI Statement of Risks and Liability
• PADI/RSTC Medical Statement
• PADI Standard Safe Diving Practices
What will I do?
This course covers the knowledge, skills and techniques for altitude diving including the following:
• Planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of altitude diving.
• Special Recreational Dive Planner procedures for diving at altitudes above 300m.
• Safety stops and emergency decompression procedures.
• Special equipment, descent lines and buoyancy control considerations.
• Limited Visibility diving and underwater navigation techniques.
• An overview of the physical aspects of the fresh water, altitude aquatic environment.
• The cause, signs, symptoms, and prevention of hypoxia and hypothermia while altitude diving.
• Two open water training dives.
How long will it take?
PADI programs are performance based. However, you can expect to complete the two dives in one day.

As a PADI Altitude Diver you can enrol on the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course or continue your education through the wide variety of PADI specialty courses. This certification also counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
