PADI Boat Diver

Whether you’ve never made a boat dive or you’ve logged dozens, the PADI Boat Diver Specialty course can benefit almost every diver because different boats in different parts of the world do things differently. The PADI Boat Diver Specialty course familiarizes you with the various ways you stow gear, enter and exit the water, use surface lines and more, depending upon the type boat and the location.

What do I need to start?

You need to be at least 10 years old and certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, PADI Junior Open Water Diver or hold a qualifying certification from another organisation. You will also need to complete the following forms:

• PADI Statement of Risks and Liability
• PADI/RSTC Medical Statement
• PADI Standard Safe Diving Practices

What will I do?

This course covers the knowledge, skills and techniques for boat diving including the following:

• The planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards for diving from boats ranging from small inflatables to giant live-aboards.
• The proper boat diving etiquette - storage of personal equipment, personal conduct and considerations for care of the boat.
• Basic and common boat terminology.
• Specific boat diving laws and/or ordinances.
• Local boat diving laws and/or ordinances.
• An overview of emergency/safety equipment needed on-board private diving vessels.
• Two open water training dives.

How long will it take?

PADI programs are performance based. However, you can expect to complete the two dives in one day.

Where can I go from here?

As a PADI Boat Diver you can enrol on the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course or continue your education through the wide variety of PADI specialty courses. This certification also counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
