AWARE Coral Reef Conservation
The AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course teaches divers, snorkelers and nondivers about the vital role of coral reefs in the marine environment. The course also familiarizes participants with the current state of the world's coral reefs and how they can help.
What do I need to start?
To enrol on the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation course you need only have an interest in the aquatic world. There is no minimum age or experience requirement. Divers and nondivers alike enjoy learning about the aquatic environment.
What will I do?
This course covers information about coral reef distribution, diversity, formation and ecology. It also reveals factors that threaten reefs, discusses conseravtion measures to protect these living resources and includes the following:
• An introduction to the Project AWARE Foundation.
• The importance of coral reefs to marine ecosystems and coastal areas.
• Coral reef biology, association and competition.
• The status of the world's coral reefs.
• How participants can help, including responsible diving and snorkeling practices.
How long will it take?
PADI programs are performance based. However, as there are no dives, you can expect to complete the course in a few hours.

Where can I go from here?
On completion of the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation course you can enrol on the PADI Open Water Diver course or continue your education through the wide variety of PADI specialty courses. This certification also counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
