What is servicing?

In summary a service of equipment involves the strip down and cleaning of parts, it involves a detailed inspection and replacing all necessary parts and service spares in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations.  Finally for regulators, the service will conclude with the tuning to the optimum settings.

Equipment requirements;

We know how difficult it can be to understand or even remember how often equipment should be serviced. Below is a table with the equipment that should be serviced and guidelines of how often they should be serviced. However it is suggested that if your equipment has been in storage or not used for a while or you have purchased second hand equipment, it is recommend that you service them to ensure they are in good working condition and are safe to use.

Equipment

Why Service them?

How Often

BCDs

We rely on these vital bits of kit to keep us buoyant in water. The mechanisms to inflate and deflate our BCD’s can tire from wear and tear. It is important to service these to ensure they work to their maximum effect.

Annually - We recommend that these are serviced annually but if you use your BCD on a regular basis it may be worth a little more often especially if you dive in salty waters.

Computers/Watches

It is important to have the battery checked regularly to prevent them from becoming dead on a dive. It is also recommended to have them tested to ensure their accuracy so you know that what they tell you on your dive is accurate.

Annually

Cylinders

** See Below**

Dry Suits

A worn or damaged dry suit is not only uncomfortable but is also dangerous, ensuring your seals, valves and suit on your dry suit are in good condition are of paramount importance for safe diving.

Annually – A service to check and if necessary replace seals, valves, boots and zips of your dry suit will help to ensure you dive safely and in comfort.

Regulators

It is important to ensure our main life support equipment is in top working condition at all times. By having these serviced ???

Annually or every 100 dives – Yearly servicing is important in maintaining your equipment or if you are a regular diver and do more then 100 dives in year it is advisable to have your regs checked every 100 dives to ensure good working condition of this vital part of your kit.

Cylinders**

European standards mean that the testing dates and standards are regularly changing. Always ensure that your cylinder(s) is in test to avoid disappointment from being refused by a dive centre because it is out of date.

Currently testing of cylinders is as below;

Visual Inspection – every 2.5 years

Hydrostatic Inspection – every 5 years

O2 Clean – 15 Months -if you intend to use enriched air in your cylinder it is recommended to have your cylinder O2 cleaned.

Need and air fill? We are able to do Air, Nitrox and Trimix Fills up to 300Bar. For more information on air fills click here.

It doesn’t end there, even other equipment sometimes need a little TLC for example Cameras, Fins, Snorkels, Masks, Watches, Torches and Strobes. If you need something serviced, repaired or just checked out, just pop it into the shop, where we will book it in and get your gear working like new as soon as we can.
