Oxygen First Aid for Aquatic Emergencies

Oxygen (O2) is vital for most life on earth, but it can also be a killer. The gas makes up 21 per cent of the air that we breathe, but at stronger concentrations is very reactive and can cause fires and explosions. In fact enriched air, where the oxygen concentration is more than 21 percent, can be toxic if breathed at the pressures associated with recreational diving.

Join Galaxsea Divers on this course and learn how to safely handle O2, discover how its speedy administration could ease a diver’s injuries, or even save their life.

The Dan Oxygen First Aid for Aquatic Emergencies course, also referred to as Aquatic Oxygen Provider, is designed to train and educate divers and other interested people to recognise possible aquatic related injuries and to provide oxygen as first aid for a suspected aquatic injury whilst activating the local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or arranging transport/evacuation to the nearest medical facility.

What do I need to start?

The DAN Oxygen First Aid for Aquatic Emergencies course is open to all, divers, snorkelers, and also if there is a non-diver who accompanies you on your dive adventures, it may be a good idea to involve them in case an aquatic emergency arises.

What will I do?

By the end of the course you will:

  • Describe the role and function of the cardiac and respiratory systems in the human body.
  • Identify and describe the major causes of aquatic accidents.
  • Describe the mechanisms of drowning.
